On October 24, 2018, during a visit to Guangdong, General Secretary Xi Jinping came to Jinan University and warmly encouraged the students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan present to "study hard, become successful as soon as possible, make contributions to society, and spread excellent traditional Chinese culture to all corners of the world". Seven years have passed, and the students who listened to the instructions have stepped out of campus and responded to expectations with practical actions in different fields.
Lin Yingcai (of Laotian Chinese descent) deeply feels the message of "spreading Chinese culture". Under the influence of his grandfather, he has loved Chinese culture since childhood. After graduating from Jinan University in 2019, he returned to his ancestral home in Shantou, Guangdong for the first time to trace his roots. Afterwards, he actively participated in Chinese community services in Laos, hosting Mid-Autumn Festival parties, assisting in Spring Festival lion dances and other activities, promoting Chinese culture into local communities, and participating in public welfare projects to support Chinese education.
Kong Xianghao (Hong Kong, China) bears in mind the encouragement to "contribute to society". He graduated from Jinan University with a major in Civil Engineering and chose to join an architectural design institute in Guangzhou to participate in the construction project of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. He played a role as a communication bridge in the project by virtue of his bilingual ability and understanding of the standards in both regions, personally participating and witnessing the development of the region.
Ye Weilin (Macau, China) is determined to promote culture in the field of education. He returned to Macau to become a high school Chinese teacher, emphasizing the integration of poetry appreciation, calligraphy, and traditional culture explanations in his teaching. He also attempted to design lesson plans that combined local history and culture in Macau to stimulate students' interest and identification with Chinese culture.
These three students have different backgrounds, but they all start from Jinan University as a common starting point. Their growth trajectory indicates that individual efforts can be combined with broader social and cultural exchanges and development processes. The earnest message of the past has been vividly echoed through the steadfast dedication of a generation of young people in their respective positions.
