President's Message

With 110-year history, Jinan University, or JNU, is one of the oldest universities in mainland China. Since its establishment, JNU has been cultivating talents for Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas Chinese communities by focusing on the education of overseas Chinese and the development of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

The name Jinan, meaning "Reaching to the South", comes from the Book of History, one of the Confucian classics. It reads,  "Reaching Eastward to the North and South, and spreading the culture far and wide.”This phrase reflects the confidence the ancient Chinese had in their culture and the university's noble mission.

Through years of efforts to fulfill that mission, JNU has developed a unique campus culture and spirit. By combining academic training with the influence of Chinese culture, it has attracted, inspired and nurtured generations overseas Chinese students, winning social recognition and reputation.

Situated in Guangdong province with China's most dynamic and creative economy, JNU has a rich history and a bright future. It aims to become a distinctive, prestigious high-level university, earning a place among the country's and even Asia's top universities.

With culture connected more closely to science and technology, knowledge updates and innovation speeding up, the 21st century is bound to witness the realization of Chinese Dreams. Meanwhile, JNU also has a broader vision for the future. Let's work together and make that vision comes true!
