On the afternoon of October 23, 2025, JNU College for the Elderly convened its first meeting for class advisors and monitors following its renaming, held at the Shiguangli Cultural & Aesthetic Space. The gathering aimed to chart a new course for development while enhancing the quality of education and services.

Presided over by Li Jian, Vice President of the College for the Elderly , the meeting was attended by Xie Mingtian, Director of the Office of Retired Affairs and Executive Vice President of the College for the Elderly , who addressed the participants. Xie announced two key updates: first, the institution previously known as "Jinan University Senior Citizens' College" has been officially renamed "JNU College for the Elderly"; second, the university has appointed Chen Ying as President of the College for the Elderly , Xie Mingtian as Executive Vice President, and Li Jian as Vice President. Also present were Xiao Haibin, Deputy Director of the Office of Retired Affairs, along with class advisors and monitors representing various programs.
In his remarks, Xie Mingtian highlighted that the renaming reflects the university’s strategic response to population aging and its commitment to transitioning senior education toward “high-quality, connotation-driven development.” He noted that with 24 years of experience, the College for the Elderly will focus on four core dimensions—curriculum refinement, modernization of teaching methods, branding of campus culture, and service sophistication—to systematically elevate educational quality and learner experience.
Regarding the roles of class advisors and monitors, Xie Mingtian acknowledged their essential contributions in classroom management, academic coordination, and campus culture development. He encouraged them to further embrace their responsibilities, enhance service capabilities, and foster innovation in class activities to create a more dynamic and engaging learning atmosphere.
During the meeting, a class monitor representative delivered a speech, followed by an exchange of insights on class management practices. The agenda also included a hands-on aromatic stone crafting session (Photo: Ye Anna) and a free tour of the venue, facilitating lively interaction among attendees.

The meeting has helped outline the future development path for JNU College for the Elderly, laying a solid foundation for advancing the quality of senior education and building a vibrant learning community where seniors can pursue knowledge, enjoyment, and fulfillment.
