The General Office of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee and the General Office of the Provincial Government recently issued a commendation notice recognizing collectives and individuals for their outstanding contributions to advancing the “Green and Beautiful Guangdong” ecological initiative. The Key Laboratory of Human and Nature Life Community at Jinan University (hereinafter referred to as the “Laboratory”) was honored as an Outstanding Collective.

Established in 2021 under the leadership of Professor Song Xianzhong from the School of Management, the Laboratory focuses on ecological civilization and low-carbon development. It aims to serve as a think tank supporting the “Green and Beautiful Guangdong” strategy and to promote innovative practices for the harmonious coexistence of humans and nature.

In alignment with Guangdong’s green development goals, the Laboratory has undertaken the “Guangdong Marine Industry Carbon Emission Accounting and Assessment System Construction” project, providing scientific support for the low-carbon transition of the marine economy. It has led the development of the local standard “Technical Specification for Carbon Footprint Accounting and Assessment of Farmed Macroalgae” and released three group standards, including the “Technical Specification for Carbon Sink Monitoring of Cultivated Macroalgae.” The Laboratory also built the “Guangdong Marine Industry Carbon Emission Statistics and Accounting Database Platform” and joined the International Ocean Negative Emissions (ONCE) Program, expanding global cooperation and contributing Jinan University’s expertise to addressing climate change and promoting sustainable development.

Additionally, the Laboratory is conducting a major research project titled “Deepening the Ecological Construction of Green and Beautiful Guangdong: Achieving New Breakthroughs in Building a Modern Guangdong Model of Human-Nature Harmony,” which supports industrial green transformation and enhances economic benefits. The Laboratory also actively contributes to talent development in carbon neutrality, promotes ecological culture, and strengthens international engagement in green governance.
