A research and exchange visit by the Guangzhou Federation of Social Sciences (GFSS) to Jinan University took place on July 15, focusing on the construction of key humanities and social sciences (HSS) bases in Guangzhou and broader collaboration opportunities.

•Cui Songdong, Secretary of the Party Group and Chairman of GFSS, led the Guangzhou delegation. The visit included discussions on base construction, platform development, and social science research in Guangzhou.
•Guo Deyan, member of GFSS Party Group and full-time Vice Chairman, and Xia Quan, Deputy Secretary of the School Party Committee, participated in the symposium.
•Prior to the main meeting, Xing Feng, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of Jinan University, held talks with Cui Songdong to exchange views on high-quality development of HSS and liberal arts platforms.
Key remarks and objectives
•Cui Songdong praised Jinan University’s Humanities Key Research Base for its robust research output, think-tank services, and talent cultivation. He expressed gratitude for the university’s support of Guangzhou’s municipal social science initiatives and called for the base to deepen think-tank functions, align with Guangzhou’s needs, and accelerate the transformation and application of research achievements to support the city’s central work and the broader development of philosophy and social sciences in Guangzhou.
•Xia Quan, on behalf of Jinan University, welcomed the GFSS delegation and outlined the university’s current status in humanities development and base construction. He highlighted plans to strengthen platform building through innovative institutional mechanisms, AI-enabled research, and closer city-university cooperation to contribute to Guangzhou’s economic and social development.
•Guo Deyan emphasized the importance of nurturing young scholars to drive ideas, outcomes, and talent. Both sides discussed deeper cooperation in topic planning, talent cultivation, and academic exchange, with a focus on cultivating a new generation of researchers and practitioners.
Outlook
•The eight key HSS bases in Guangzhou participated in discussions on platform science, think-tank construction, team building, and future direction.
•After the formal meeting, the Guangzhou delegation toured Jinan University’s History Museum, underscoring shared appreciation for the institution’s heritage and its potential role in advancing Guangzhou’s intellectual ecosystem.
