Jinan University held the opening ceremony for its 2025 cohort of new master's degree students in medicine on July 16 at the Shipai campus auditorium. Attending the ceremony were Sun Yu, Secretary of the School Party Committee; Hong An, Vice President; Chen Ying, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee; and senior leaders from the Medical Department, affiliated colleges, hospitals, and the School of Clinical Medicine, among others.

In remarks delivered on behalf of the university, Sun Yu welcomed the 2025 medical master's students and reflected on Jinan University's century-long history and the development of its medical disciplines. He underscored the university's mission to cultivate medical talent and contribute to social health, urging students to embody the school motto — “loyalty, sincerity, integrity and respect.” He encouraged them to cultivate a “benevolent heart,” pursue medical craftsmanship, uphold perseverance, and maintain a “heroic heart” as they advance through their studies, aiming to become outstanding doctors who safeguard public health in Jinan.

Professor Chen Zhuoming from the First Clinical Medical College spoke as a faculty representative. Drawing on his experiences in medicine, education, and research, he urged freshmen to value their time in school, let benevolence guide their actions, and use innovation as a sail. He also emphasized broadening international horizons in light of the university's overseas Chinese characteristics and encouraged students to become “discoverers of clinical problems” and “bridges for interdisciplinary cooperation” to better serve patients.

Huang Aibao, a current student representative and 2023 graduate of the affiliated Guangzhou Red Cross Hospital, shared insights from his journey. He emphasized that setbacks and perseverance are essential courses in medical training and urged new students to uphold the school motto, maintain reverence for life, show compassion for patients, and strive to write a meaningful chapter of youth.

Representative freshmen from the School of Stomatology expressed their aspirations, pledging to seize learning opportunities, treat practice as guidance, center on patient care, and pursue standardized, evidence-based research to grow into capable medical professionals.

Following the ceremony, student leaders were presented with school emblems, marking their formal enrollment as Jinan University graduates. Guo Yali, a 2025 student from the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, delivered the new-student pledge, affirming loyalty to the medical profession and belief in a bright future.

Enrollment education for medical freshmen immediately commenced after the ceremony, with special lectures on the university’s history, scientific ethics and academic integrity, career planning for medical graduates, mental health education, anti-fraud measures, and graduate training policies. Later that afternoon, the new students toured the school history museum to gain a deeper appreciation of Jinan University’s history and culture.

The 2025 medical master's cohort is set to begin classes on July 17 and will complete their studies by August 15. Upon completion, they will be assigned to the First Clinical Medical College, Second Clinical Medical College, Third Clinical Medical College, the Affiliated Guangzhou Red Cross Hospital, Zhuhai Clinical Medical College, and the Affiliated Jiangmen Wuyi Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, entering graduate study and standardized resident physician training.
