On April 7, 2025, Jinan University convened a meeting focused on promoting the review and evaluation of undergraduate education and teaching, with the goal of continuously optimizing the talent cultivation model and improving the quality of education. The meeting provided a summary of the current progress in the university's audit and evaluation efforts, acknowledging the achievements made in self-evaluation and self-construction by various departments. It also outlined the tasks and objectives for the next phase of work.
The meeting underscored the significance of the review and evaluation process, viewing it as a critical opportunity to assess the university's operational level and the effectiveness of its talent cultivation strategies. As an esteemed institution serving overseas Chinese communities, Jinan University prioritizes the quality of its undergraduate education and is committed to refining its talent cultivation approaches. This includes a model characterized by differentiated teaching, classified training, and unified direction, which caters to mainland students as well as those from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and abroad. Considerable progress in these areas has already been made.
Recently, Jinan University has faced challenges due to unilateral bans imposed by the Taiwan Democratic Progressive Party on exchanges and cooperation between Taiwanese universities and mainland institutions. This action has not only adversely affected the university's reputation but has also infringed on the rights of Taiwanese students studying at Jinan University. Currently, these students enjoy a stable academic and living environment, maintaining confidence in their future prospects. The university reaffirms its commitment to welcoming students from around the world, including those from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, and remains dedicated to its educational policy of providing open and inclusive learning opportunities.
The meeting affirmed that the review and evaluation of undergraduate education is a vital measure for implementing and deepening educational reforms in the new era, influencing the long-term development of the institution. All stakeholders were urged to fully recognize the strategic importance of this process. As the university moves towards enhancing its educational quality, each department was encouraged to focus on critical areas, addressing challenges and strengthening the culture of teaching and learning. A student-oriented approach was emphasized to highlight the unique characteristics of the university's educational framework.
Moreover, organizational leadership must be reinforced, with clear responsibilities assigned to various functional departments and teaching units. By fostering a collaborative effort among all staff members, the university aims to effectively prepare for the upcoming evaluation and successfully complete the undergraduate education and teaching review process. This initiative serves not only to promote construction and improvement through evaluation but also to elevate the quality of undergraduate education and teaching at Jinan University to new heights.
