On the afternoon of March 28, 2025, a delegation from the Jinan University Shenzhen Alumni Association, led by President Wen Wu, returned to campus for a meeting with Sun Yu, the Secretary of the Jinan University Party Committee. The purpose of this visit was to report on recent activities of the Shenzhen Alumni Association, strengthen ties with their alma mater, and promote integrated development between the university and the local community. The symposium was also attended by Hong An, Vice President of Jinan University, and chaired by Liu Yujie, Director of the External Liaison Office.

Strengthening Alumni Connections

During the meeting, Sun Yu expressed high regard for the contributions made by the Shenzhen Alumni Association and the alumni enterprises in supporting local development, particularly in the Bay Area. He noted that the upcoming year marks the 120th anniversary of Jinan University and the start of the 15th Five-Year Plan. He encouraged the Shenzhen Alumni Association to enhance coordination among alumni across the Greater Bay Area, acting as a core driver of collaboration and progress. Sun Yu emphasized the importance of creating a two-way platform that promotes engagement between the university and successful alumni enterprises, fostering opportunities for talent cultivation, internships, and employment in Shenzhen.

Recognizing Alumni Contributions

Vice President Hong An warmly welcomed the delegation back to Jinan University, acknowledging the Shenzhen Alumni Association's rich history, spanning over 40 years. Under Wen Wu's leadership, the association has showcased innovative practices and made significant contributions to the special economic zone's development. Hong expressed gratitude for the alumni's longstanding support for the university, particularly in facilitating the construction of the Shenzhen campus. She urged the alumni to leverage the university's strong achievements transformation platform to expand opportunities for alumni and contribute to the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Alumni Association Report

Wen Wu elaborated on the Shenzhen Alumni Association’s mission to “serve alumni, give back to the alma mater, and contribute to society.” He highlighted recent initiatives aimed at enhancing organizational structure, implementing digital management, and empowering both alumni and their enterprises. The association has successfully mobilized over 50,000 alumni to support critical projects of the university and is eager to receive further guidance and support from Jinan University.

Executive President Huang Jianzhong provided insights into the development history of the association and its guiding principle of “everyone's alumni association, everyone takes care of it,” showcasing successful strategies for promoting secondary organizational development and building an inclusive alumni platform.

Engaging Dialogue

The meeting included an open exchange session where alumni actively discussed local cooperation, industry-university collaboration, talent cultivation, cutting-edge discipline settings, and alumni information management. Many expressed their commitment to deepening connections with their alma mater and jointly advancing the interests of both the university and alumni careers.

The symposium, which also saw participation from key figures within the Shenzhen Alumni Association, including rotating President Li Lihong, Vice Presidents, and members of various sector alliances, served as a fruitful platform for fostering closer ties between the alumni and Jinan University. The support and ideas discussed during this visit are expected to enhance collaborative efforts, promoting sustained development for both alumni and the university as it embarks on its next chapter.
