The opening ceremony for the in-service training class of Western Medicine Practitioners Studying Chinese Medicine (Foshan Class) was successfully conducted by the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine at Jinan University in Foshan, Guangdong.

The event featured remarks from influential figures in the healthcare sector, beginning with Huang Weijun, Vice President of Foshan First People's Hospital. In his welcome speech, he shared personal anecdotes about his experiences with traditional Chinese medicine, encouraging students to think critically about its essence. Huang urged participants to leverage this training opportunity by integrating modern diagnostic and treatment techniques with traditional Chinese medicine, aiming for a synergistic approach that enhances chronic disease prevention and treatment. He also emphasized the importance of fostering collaborative relationships between hospitals and educational institutions to accelerate the integration of clinical practice and research.
Zhu Xiaofeng, President of the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine at Jinan University, reflected on the discipline’s advancements since the 1980s, noting Jinan University's proactive response to national policies by initiating Cross-Training in Western and Chinese Medicine education. He highlighted the successful enrollment of over 1,500 students since 2021 and the subsequent achievement of qualification certificates in integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine by graduates. This partnership with Foshan First People's Hospital is seen as a crucial step in enhancing the quality of traditional Chinese medicine services in the region and opening pathways for multi-disciplinary cooperation.
Zhong Guoqiang, a researcher at the Foshan Municipal Health Bureau, also addressed the students, motivating them to embrace their roles in bridging traditional Chinese and Western medicine. He called for deep engagement in their studies, the application of learned concepts to daily practices, and a commitment to innovate within the realm of integrated medicine.
During the First Class of Famous Teachers, Zhang Ronghua, Director of the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Traditional Chinese Medicine Informatization at Jinan University, delivered an enlightening lecture titled Reflections on Western Medicine Practitioners Studying Chinese Medicine. Zhang discussed the national Cross-Training in Western and Chinese Medicine policy, shared insights on the historical development of traditional Chinese medicine, and intertwined this with case studies that illuminate its preventive and treatment methodologies.
Jin Xuegang, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine at Jinan University, presided over the ceremony. He encouraged students to study relevant texts, including Highlights of Xi Jinping's Discussions on Health and Wellness in China, and emphasized the importance of understanding Xi's directives regarding the development of traditional Chinese medicine. Jin urged students to uphold and innovate within this rich historical framework to support public health and enhance the well-being of the community.
Additionally, the ceremony marked the inauguration of the clinical practice base for the in-service training course for Western medicine learning traditional Chinese medicine at the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Jinan University.
This initiative reflects a commitment to advancing the integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine, fostering collaboration in the medical field, and ultimately enhancing healthcare within the region.
