On March 4, 2025, the launch meeting of an integrated project under the National Natural Science Foundation's Regional Innovation and Development Joint Fund, led by Professor Zhang Ronghua, convened in Guangzhou. The event attracted a distinguished panel of experts, including Zhu Liguo, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Hong An, Vice President of Jinan University, and Bi Minggang, Director of the 10th Division of Medical Science at the National Natural Science Foundation of China, among others. Faculty and students from Jinan University's Science and Technology Department, School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and School of Pharmacy were also in attendance. The ceremony was presided over by Gao Hao, Director of the Science and Technology Department at Jinan University.

Hong An delivered the opening remarks, extending a warm welcome to all attendees. She expressed gratitude to the National Natural Science Foundation and various provincial departments for their continuous support. Emphasizing the significance of this integration project, she mentioned that it marks a crucial step towards optimizing the technology management mechanism at the university, aiming for seamless collaboration across departments to enhance project execution.

Wu Jieyong, representing the Guangdong Provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, congratulated the university on hosting the kickoff meeting. He highlighted the province’s commitment to fostering high-level research platforms in traditional Chinese medicine and emphasized the importance of Jinan University as a pivotal institution in the field.

Zhang Donglei outlined the province's foundational support system for research projects, advocating for ongoing strategic initiatives aimed at core technology development and collaboration between academia and industry.

Qiu Yue commended Jinan University’s achievements and encouraged interdisciplinary integration to enhance traditional Chinese medicine research outcomes.

Bi Minggang reiterated the National Natural Science Foundation's dedication to promoting regional innovation. He set forth expectations for the project team to explore traditional Chinese medicine theories and facilitate deeper industry-academic collaborations.

Professor Zhang Ronghua presented an overview of the project, which focuses on the connection between kidney health and degenerative diseases such as osteoporosis and Alzheimer's. He outlined the research goals, plans, and expected innovations aimed at leveraging traditional Chinese medicine for preventative and therapeutic advancements in elder care.

During the exchange session, project team representatives detailed their individual research objectives, followed by constructive peer discussions led by Zhu Liguo, who concluded the session by encouraging the team to refine their research design and collaborate extensively to ensure the successful realization of the project's goals.
This initiative not only aims to push the boundaries of scientific research but also seeks to contribute positively to public health and the evolution of traditional Chinese medicine within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
