The International Stroke Conference (ISC 2025) recently concluded in Los Angeles on February 7, where Prof. Xu Anding's team from the Department of Neurology at the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University showcased their significant findings in stroke research. Their presentation, titled “Liraglutide in Acute Minor Ischemic Stroke or High-Risk Transient Ischemic Attack Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (LAMP Study),” details a multicenter, controlled, prospective, randomized, open-label trial—the first of its kind to examine the efficacy of GLP-1 receptor agonists in patients experiencing acute ischemic stroke.

Prof. Zhu Huili, representing her team, also presented findings at the closing ceremony of the conference, which received high praise from attending experts. Results from the LAMP study indicated that the GLP-1 receptor agonist significantly reduced the recurrence rates of acute mild ischemic stroke in diabetic patients and improved clinical outcomes within 90 days, establishing it as a promising treatment option for acute ischemic stroke.

Additionally, Prof. Xu Anding's team collaborated with Prof. Ye Wencai from Jinan University's National Key Laboratory of Bioactive Molecules and Drug Optimization to explore neuroprotection in ischemic stroke using traditional Chinese medicine monomers. Their project, titled “MBS-1 Enhancements Brain Neuroprotection in Ischemic Stroke,” applied the advanced Stroke Preclinical Assessment Network (SPAN) paradigm, and the corresponding poster attracted considerable attention at the conference.
As a national key clinical specialty, the Department of Neurology at the First Affiliated Hospital remains dedicated to advancing innovation in stroke prevention and treatment. The successful presentation of the LAMP research garnered substantial recognition from both domestic and international experts, highlighting China’s commitment to cutting-edge advancements in stroke treatment.
Prof. Xu Anding’s team expressed their aspirations: “Through the LAMP research, we have provided new options for the treatment and intervention of acute ischemic stroke, contributing Chinese wisdom to the global development of stroke research.”
