On January 7, 2025, the second meeting of the first academic committee of the National Key Laboratory of Bioactive Molecules and Drug Optimization convened in Guangzhou. The gathering was attended by key figures, including Xing Feng, the leader of the overseeing department and president of Jinan University, as well as Hong An, the vice president, and other distinguished committee members.
Attendees included prominent academicians such as Honorary Chairman Yao Xinsheng, Academicians Su Guohui, Yang Baofeng, and Chen Zhinan, among others. The meeting was co-chaired by Hong An and Yang Baofeng.

In his welcome address, Xing Feng praised the strong support from leaders and experts that has propelled the National Key Laboratory’s success since its establishment in March 2023. He emphasized the importance of the Academic Committee's guidance in refining the lab’s academic direction and enhancing organized research activities, with the aim of establishing it as a premier national research platform.
Keynote speeches were delivered by Tong Yang, Deputy Director of the Management Office at the State Key Laboratory of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and Zeng Hao from the Science and Technology Department of Guangdong Province.
Professor Ye Wencai, the Director of the National Key Laboratory, provided an overview of the lab's progress in 2024, while Professors Wang Ying, Gao Hao, Li Zhengqiu, and Lu Xiaoyun highlighted achievements across four key research areas:
1. Discovery of Bioactive Molecules
2. Green Advanced Manufacturing of Pharmaceutical Molecules
3. Efficacy Evaluation Models and Target Discovery
4. Optimization of Drug Lead Compounds
The Academic Committee reviewed the laboratory's annual work report and engaged in comprehensive discussions regarding its construction and future development. Academician Yang Baofeng, Chairman of the Academic Committee, concluded the meeting with remarks summarizing the discussions.

The meeting aimed to evaluate the National Key Laboratory's progress and set strategic directions for its future, including aspirations to establish it as a national platform for drug innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and advanced talent development.
Over 100 participants, including leaders from the school’s functional departments and key members of the national key laboratory, attended the event.
