On December 14-15, 2024, the 5th China University Optoelectronics Dean Forum took place at the International Conference Hall of the Zeng Xianzi Science Museum at Jinan University. This significant event was organized by the College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering and hosted by the Joint Conference of Optoelectronic Deans of Chinese Universities.
Keynote Speeches and Themes
The forum opened with remarks from notable leaders in the field:
- Zhang Ronghua, Vice President of Jinan University and member of the Party Committee Standing Committee
- Lu Yanqing, Vice President of Nanjing University and one of the initiators of the forum
- Dai Daozhen, Dean of the College of Optoelectronics Science and Engineering at Zhejiang University and executive chairman of the conference
Guan Baiou, Dean of the College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering at Jinan University, presided over the ceremony.
Themed Education Power: What is Optoelectronics?, the forum featured 23 presentations covering four main topics: discipline construction and development, new engineering construction, interdisciplinary integration, and talent cultivation in optoelectronics.
Participation and Insights
The event attracted over 310 attendees from 73 universities, including prestigious institutions such as:
- Zhejiang University
- Huazhong University of Science and Technology
- Tsinghua University
- University of Electronic Science and Technology of China
- Nankai University
Participants engaged in meaningful discussions on advancing disciplinary structures, new engineering education, and the integration of interdisciplinary approaches. Themes like interdisciplinary intersection and AI empowerment emerged as focal points of exploration.
History and Future of the Forum
Since its inception in 2016, the China Optoelectronics Dean's Forum has aimed to create a professional and open platform for communication among academic leaders in optoelectronics. Previous forums were successfully conducted at Zhejiang University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Tianjin University, and Changchun University of Science and Technology. The next forum is set to be held in Beijing, co-hosted by the School of Optoelectronics at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Department of Precision Instruments at Tsinghua University.
This year's forum reflected the commitment of Jinan University and its partners to advance the field of optoelectronics through collaboration, innovation, and education.
