In a significant achievement, Jinan University has been approved for a total of 68 projects funded by the National Social Science Fund and the Ministry of Education for the year 2024, amounting to a total funding of 19.5 million yuan. This announcement underscores the university's commitment to advancing research in the social sciences.

 Major Project Approvals Reflect Stability and Innovation

Among the approved projects, Jinan University has secured 8 major projects, including 3 annual major projects, 2 special major projects, and 2 major research projects in philosophy and social sciences. This reflects a stable overall number of approvals while marking new breakthroughs in project categories.

Nationally, 326 annual major projects received funding, with Jinan University ranking 21st in the country and 2nd in Guangdong Province for the number of approvals. Notable projects include:

- Professor Fan Junjun from the College of Liberal Arts, who is leading a major project on minority language literature, marking his second major project approval.

- Professor Yang Dongsheng from the School of Public Administration, whose project addresses a gap in military research at the university.

- Professor Liu Hua from the College of Chinese Language and Culture, who is highlighting the unique heritage of Jinan University's century-old overseas Chinese school.

Additionally, the university has achieved its first approval for a major historical research project from the Chinese Academy of History, funded by the National Social Science Fund. 

 National Ranking in Annual Projects

In 2024, Jinan University has been approved for 39 annual projects under the National Social Science Fund, including 2 key projects, 24 general projects, and 13 youth projects. This positions the university 18th in China and 2nd in Guangdong Province for project approvals. The general projects ranked 7th nationally, while youth projects saw a doubling in approvals compared to the previous year. Since 2016, the university has consistently secured over 30 annual projects funded by the National Social Science Fund, maintaining a top 30 national ranking for nine consecutive years.

 Diverse Project Categories

Beyond annual and major projects, Jinan University has also received approval for 19 projects across various categories under the National Social Science Fund. This includes:

- 10 projects focused on post funding and excellent thesis publishing.

- 2 Chinese academic translation projects aimed at promoting Chinese academic excellence abroad.

- 1 individual project led by a special scholar exploring unique disciplines of significant cultural value.

- 6 rolling grants for major projects and art studies.

The successful acquisition of these projects reflects Jinan University's strategic focus on key research areas and its commitment to enhancing the quality of its scientific research. This achievement not only demonstrates the university's research capabilities but also supports its ongoing efforts to establish itself as a high-level institution within the Double First Class initiative.
