On December 16, 2024, the 2024 Annual Law Popularization Activity for Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and Overseas Chinese Students took place successfully at Jinan University, held in the Deng Youcai Academic Lecture Hall within the Panyu Campus Library. This significant event, guided by various governmental offices and supported by multiple educational institutions, aimed to enhance legal knowledge and patriotic sentiment among students.

Event Overview
The activity was organized under the guidance of the Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Affairs Office of the Ministry of Education, and supported by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education among others. Notable guests included Fan Tao, Director of the Exchange Department of the Guangdong Liaison Office in Hong Kong, Cen Lichun, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office in Macao, and Wang Yu, Chairman of the Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Overseas Students Management Research Branch of the Guangdong Higher Education Association.
The event featured prominent judges, including Zhao Tong, Vice President and Senior Judge of the Guangzhou Intermediate People's Court, and Xu Xirong, Director of the Law Department at Guangzhou Medical University, who presided over the Q&A competition.
Welcome Addresses
In her welcome speech, Wang Yu emphasized the importance of Basic Law knowledge for students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. She referenced General Secretary Xi Jinping's guidance and stated that this activity not only promotes the One Country, Two Systems policy but also supports the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. She encouraged participating students to deepen their connection to the motherland and enhance their legal literacy.
Chen Qi also highlighted the significance of understanding the Constitution and Basic Laws, emphasizing their roles in the successful implementation of One Country, Two Systems. He urged students to embrace their national identity and support reunification efforts.

Competition Format
The event kicked off in late November and involved nearly 46 universities nationwide, accumulating over 5,000 participants. Following a robust online quiz competition, 11 teams advanced to the offline Q&A competition.
The competition format included:
1. Showcase Round - Teams presented their interpretations of the Basic Law through speeches, stage plays, and various performances.
2. Q&A Round - A rapid-fire session where teams demonstrated their knowledge and understanding of the Basic Law through quick responses.

Results
The competition concluded with impressive performances:
- Grand Prize: Sun Yat-sen University
- First Prize: Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Jinan University
- Second Prize: Wuyi University, Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shenzhen University
- Third Prize: China University of Political Science and Law, Southwest University of Political Science and Law, Shantou University, South China Normal University, South China University of Technology
- Best Popular Team Award: Jinan University, Shenzhen University, Wuyi University
Since its inception in 2020, the Basic Law knowledge Q&A activities have become a significant provincial initiative aimed at promoting legal education and patriotism among students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and overseas Chinese. As the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return approaches, these activities will continue to empower youth to embrace their responsibilities in legal understanding and national identity, contributing to the development of the Greater Bay Area.
