From December 2 to 8, 2024, Jinan University's Vice Principal, Zhang Xiaoxin, led a delegation to Portugal and Spain, aimed at expanding international talent training channels and strengthening strategic partnerships. This visit facilitated comprehensive exchanges with prominent universities, embassies, Chinese language schools, overseas Chinese communities, and alumni groups in both countries.

Strategic University Collaborations
The delegation visited several prestigious institutions, including the University of Lisbon and the New University of Lisbon in Portugal, as well as the University of Barcelona and the Autonomous University of Barcelona in Spain. Highlights of the visit included:
- University of Lisbon: Zhang Xiaoxin renewed the intercollegiate cooperation agreement, emphasizing plans to enhance scientific research collaboration between the two universities.
- New University of Lisbon: Discussions focused on future cooperation in business and language education, culminating in a preliminary agreement to work together.
- University of Barcelona: The delegation explored partnerships in journalism, international politics, economics, and management, agreeing to initiate collaboration through short-term student exchange programs.
- Autonomous University of Barcelona: Talks centered on expanding the exchange student program between the two institutions, specifically through the School of Translation and Interpretation.

Engagement with Chinese Language Schools
The delegation visited several Chinese educational institutions, including the Lisbon Chinese School, Madrid Yucai Modern Chinese School, and Mataro Textile Chinese School. These visits allowed for discussions with principals, teachers, and parents about the current landscape of Chinese language education in Portugal and Spain. The insights gained will inform strategies for enhancing Chinese language programs at Jinan University and support for schools wishing to join the Global Chinese School Alliance.

Building Relationships with Overseas Chinese Communities
The delegation also met with overseas Chinese organizations and alumni in Lisbon, Madrid, and Barcelona. Zhang Xiaoxin provided updates on Jinan University’s developments and expressed gratitude for the support received from the local Chinese communities. The discussions with alumni focused on their experiences in Southern Europe and plans to establish Portuguese and Spanish alumni associations, aiming to foster ongoing ties between former students and their alma mater.
Diplomatic Engagements
During the visit, the delegation met with Chinese Consul General Meng Yuhong and Consul Bao Shengxiang in Barcelona. The Consul General praised Jinan University’s overseas influence and encouraged continued support for international Chinese language education to enhance cultural exchanges between China and Spain.
The delegation, which included key university leaders and representatives from the Academic Affairs Office and the International Exchange and Cooperation Office, successfully advanced Jinan University's global outreach goals. This visit not only deepened existing partnerships but also laid the groundwork for future collaborative opportunities in education and cultural exchange, further positioning Jinan University as a leader in international education efforts.
