Jinan University's Panyu Campus, located in Xinzao Town, has transformed from barren farmland into a thriving educational hub over the past decade. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the campus has become a vital engine for the university's development, attracting top colleges and research teams, enhancing academic programs, and fostering a vibrant learning environment.

Lin Rupeng, Secretary of the Party Committee at Jinan University, described the Panyu Campus as a new century project that has evolved into the largest and most accommodating campus within the university. He emphasized its role in advancing the institution's Double First Class initiative, aimed at elevating the university's status as a high-level educational establishment.
Looking ahead, the Panyu Campus plans to establish five centers: an Overseas Talent Training Center, a Science and Education Innovation Center, an Industry-University Research Collaboration Center, an International Cooperation Center, and a Chinese Culture Communication Center. These initiatives are designed to foster new growth in emerging and interdisciplinary fields.

The campus has gained recognition both domestically and internationally, attracting outstanding students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and mainland China. As the university's reputation has grown, so too has the demand for academic space, making the development of the Panyu Campus a critical necessity.
The Panyu Campus project began in 2006 when it was approved by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council. The first phase of construction was approved in 2011, with the foundation laid in 2012 and the campus officially opening in 2014. This development has contributed to the university's three-dimensional educational structure, which includes multiple campuses.

The campus itself features a blend of Lingnan-style architecture and modern design, with picturesque elements like Mirror Lake and Duanxi, reflecting Jinan's rich history and culture. Nearly 3,000 students from various countries and regions have called this campus home, marking the beginning of a new chapter in Jinan University's legacy.
Huang Jingying, an International Economics and Trade student who was among the first to enroll in the Panyu Campus, fondly recalls the transformation she witnessed. “In the past four years, we have seen the growth and development of the Panyu campus, with clean dormitories, bright teaching buildings, and welcoming study spaces,” she said. “We have left indelible marks in our lives here.”

After nearly six years of construction, the Panyu Campus has evolved into an international educational environment that is well-equipped for teaching, learning, and living. As it enters its second decade, the campus is poised to continue driving Jinan University’s mission of excellence and innovation.

On November 19, 2016, Jinan University and the University of Birmingham celebrated the unveiling of their Joint College, marking a significant advancement in Sino-foreign cooperative education. This institution is the first non-independent legal entity approved by Jinan University, allowing students to benefit from the expertise of faculty from both universities. Graduates who meet the degree requirements will receive certificates from both Jinan University and the University of Birmingham, enabling them to pursue international study opportunities without leaving China.

Liu Yuxi, a 2018 graduate majoring in Economic Statistics from the Joint College, exemplifies the success of this international education model. After completing his studies, Liu continued his education at the National University of Singapore and is now a data analyst at Dahua Bank in Singapore. He attributes his career success to the diverse perspectives and cutting-edge knowledge provided by the faculty, which includes industry experts and researchers from both universities.

Since its enrollment began in 2017, the Joint College has graduated four classes, with over 70% of graduates pursuing further studies in countries such as the United Kingdom, the United States, Hong Kong, Australia, and Singapore. Notably, more than 90% of these students have gained admission to top 100 universities worldwide for master's or doctoral programs. In 2024, the Joint College was recognized as one of the top 20 outstanding Sino-foreign cooperative education institutions.
The Panyu Campus of Jinan University has seen remarkable growth over the past decade, expanding from 3,000 to 19,000 students and encompassing 15 colleges. This transformation has established the campus as the primary site for undergraduate education at the university. Continuous upgrades to facilities, including specialized study rooms, multimedia classrooms, laboratories, and libraries, have enhanced the learning environment. Students like Lai Yu appreciate the extensive sports facilities available, including basketball, swimming, football, and badminton, which contribute to a well-rounded educational experience.
According to the Overall Improvement Plan for Panyu Campus, the campus is expected to accommodate 26,000 students, including nearly 20,000 full-time students, upon completion of its development. This influx of young talent will ensure the campus remains vibrant and dynamic.
Looking ahead, the Panyu Campus aims to adhere to the strategy of combining the strengths of overseas Chinese schools with prestigious institutions. As part of Jinan University's century project, it seeks to establish itself as a high-level university with distinctive characteristics, gaining recognition both nationally and globally. The campus will play a crucial role in advancing the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area as an International Science and Technology Innovation Center and a hub for international talent.
