In celebration of the 118th anniversary of Jinan University, the Zhuhai Campus held the School Anniversary Cup Alumni Teacher-Student Basketball Tournament and the inaugural Alumni Cup Tennis Tournament on November 23, 2024. These events aimed to strengthen the connections between the university and its alumni while uniting and harnessing the collective spirit of the alumni community.

The basketball tournament kicked off in the afternoon at the campus basketball court, accompanied by the rhythmic sounds of gongs. More than 30 alumni from Zhuhai and Zhongshan, along with faculty members and both undergraduate and graduate students, formed six teams. Alumni traveled from various parts of the country to reunite with teachers and former classmates, celebrating the university's milestone through the excitement of sports.

Lu Jianmin, Secretary of the Campus Party Committee, along with other campus leaders, including Rong Hao, Deputy Administrative Director of the Campus Management Committee; Lv Qingwen, Director of the Campus Party and Political Office; Yang Xue, Director of the Campus Sports Department; and Huang Qingzhang, Vice Chairman of the Campus Trade Union, attended the event.

Lu Jianmin welcomed the returning alumni and expressed heartfelt gratitude for their loyalty and support for the university’s development. He noted that the basketball match has become a hallmark event of the Zhuhai campus anniversary celebrations, with the addition of the Alumni Cup tennis match this year. He emphasized the campus's ongoing transformation, particularly in developing science and technology parks, and encouraged alumni to continue contributing ideas and support for the university's growth. He officially announced the start of the basketball game with a ceremonial kick-off.

On the court, players showcased impressive teamwork and skill, engaging in dynamic plays and strategic defenses. The competition was intense, with thrilling moments throughout the two-hour match. Ultimately, the graduate student representative team emerged as the champions of the basketball match.

Simultaneously, the first Alumni Cup tennis tournament also took place, attracting nearly 35 participants, including alumni, faculty, and students. Matches spanned from early morning until evening, featuring both singles and doubles competitions. In a remarkable performance, 2017 alumnus Wang Xin claimed the singles championship by defeating Mei Yusheng with a score of 6-3. Wang Xin also teamed up with Wang Erte to win the doubles championship, making him the double champion of the alumni competition.

These events not only provided a platform for alumni to showcase their skills and reconnect but also embodied the spirit of unity and progress among the Jinan community. The camaraderie, joy, and friendships fostered through the tournaments will be cherished by all participants. The Zhuhai Campus looks forward to future gatherings, continuing to strengthen the bonds among alumni and the university.
