On November 6, the College of Foreign Studies convened its 2024 Autumn Student Work Conference, aimed at enhancing the quality of student work and fostering moral and talent development within the college. The event featured training sessions for class teachers of the incoming 2024 freshman class and was attended by key figures including Chen Wenju, Secretary of the Party Committee, Xie Simiao from the Mental Health Education Center, and over 20 undergraduate class teachers and counselors. The conference was chaired by Li Lei, Deputy Secretary of the College Party Committee.

Li Lei opened the meeting by summarizing the student work landscape for the 2023 academic year, highlighting advancements in five key areas: ideological and political guidance, student service management, mental health, internship and employment, and campus culture. She outlined future objectives, including enhancing collaboration among departments, improving support for at-risk students, encouraging participation in innovation projects, and strengthening employment assistance.
Counselor Zhang Qian provided insights into the comprehensive evaluation of undergraduate students and the progress of employment initiatives for graduating classes.
Class teacher representatives Liu Xia from the Business English Department and Yang Caiying from the English Department shared their strategies for effective class management. Liu emphasized the importance of initial class meetings to establish rapport and monitor student well-being, while Yang discussed her approach to guiding students through employment opportunities and competitions, fostering open communication to understand their needs.
Xie Simiao delivered a presentation on Identification and Basic Coping of Psychological Problems in College Students, offering theoretical insights and practical strategies to address common psychological issues. She encouraged class teachers to analyze student challenges from multiple perspectives and provided guidance on distinguishing between psychological disorders and developmental issues. Attendees engaged actively, posing questions about real-life scenarios, which Xie addressed comprehensively.
In his concluding remarks, Chen Wenju praised the progress made in student work while acknowledging areas for improvement. He articulated four key goals: ensuring student safety through proactive mental health management, fostering a positive academic environment through collaborative efforts, supporting comprehensive student development with career planning and guidance, and enhancing employment opportunities through resource mobilization and partnerships with enterprises. Chen emphasized the collective responsibility of the college in facilitating effective student work and ensuring the seamless integration of teaching and research initiatives.
