On November 15, 2024, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao New Quality Productivity Forum took place at Jinan University's Panyu Campus. This event was hosted by Jinan University and organized by various departments, including the Management Committee, Science and Technology Research Office, Industrial Economics Research Institute, and the School of Chemistry and Materials Science. The forum is part of the academic activities commemorating the 118th anniversary of Jinan University and the 10th anniversary of the Panyu Campus.

Forum Highlights

The opening ceremony was presided over by Chen Ying, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee. Academician Xing Feng, the President of Jinan University, welcomed the attending experts and guests, emphasizing the forum's significance.

Welcome Speech by Xing Feng:  

  Xing Feng highlighted Jinan University's commitment to the four orientations and its focus on maximizing its disciplinary strengths. He discussed the university’s initiatives aimed at overcoming challenges in transforming scientific and technological achievements, fostering an innovation ecosystem, and cultivating new productive forces. He also expressed Jinan University's intention to align its research and talent development with the needs of key industries in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to support high-quality industrial development.

Esteemed Guests and Discussions

Prominent figures in academia and industry participated in the discussions, addressing the theme of Promoting the Integrated Development of Scientific and Technological Innovation and Industrial Innovation. Notable attendees included:

- Zhu Wei, member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the Guangdong Development and Reform Commission

- Peng Xiaojun, Academician and President of the Shenzhen Institute of Dalian University of Technology

- Yu Shuhong, Academician and President of the School of Science, Southern University of Science and Technology

- Zhu Yizhun, Academician of the European Academy of Science and Arts, and Vice President of Macao University of Science and Technology

- Sun Hongzhe, Vice President of Hong Kong University

These experts discussed recent research findings on new productivity in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao region, focusing on critical topics such as biomedicine, artificial intelligence, digital economy, and green development.

Roundtable Forum

A roundtable forum on Promoting Mutual Promotion of Industry and Technology followed, chaired by Tao Feng, Dean of the Institute of Industrial Economics at Jinan University. Participants included:

- Li Liejun, Professor at South China University of Technology

- Liu Jian, CEO of BeiGene Innovation Center

- Ye Nanbiao, Vice General Manager of Jinfa Technology

- Xie Yong, CEO of Zhongke Science and Technology Innovation  

- Chen Tianfeng, Dean of the School of Chemistry and Materials Science at Jinan University

Together, they explored strategies for advancing new quality productivity and shared innovative ideas to enhance development within the Greater Bay Area.

The forum concluded with remarks from Pan Qiliang, Executive Director and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Panyu Campus Management Committee, highlighting the importance of collaboration in fostering technological and industrial advancements.
