On October 18, Jinan University organized the Campus Afternoon Tea (Freshman Session) - Secretary, President, and Student Representatives Face to Face event at the Shipai Campus. The gathering featured Lin Rupeng, Secretary of the Party Committee of Jinan University, and Sun Yu, Deputy Secretary, who engaged in an open dialogue with student representatives over afternoon tea, addressing topics related to student growth and university development.

During the event, students were encouraged to share their opinions on subjects such as Jinan's Initial Impressions and Focusing on Development. They voiced their experiences and offered suggestions on various topics, including academics, psychological well-being, future career planning, and the overall construction of the university. The atmosphere was vibrant and engaging, allowing for a rich exchange of ideas.
Department heads responded to the students' inquiries comprehensively. Lin Rupeng praised the students for their insightful thoughts and their enthusiasm for learning and engagement with the university. In response to a query regarding the process for obtaining graduate recommendation qualifications, he shared his personal journey, emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary reading and practical problem-solving. Lin encouraged students to cultivate a habit of extensive reading, work diligently, achieve strong academic results, and aspire to contribute positively to society.
He urged the students to cherish their youth and diligently develop various skills, positioning themselves as future pillars of the nation. Lin also stressed the importance of fostering a sense of ownership among students, encouraging them to actively participate in both school and community affairs. He highlighted the need to balance individual needs with collective responsibilities and to confront challenges head-on. Additionally, he spoke on the significance of emotional intelligence and personal development, stressing the desire for students to lead healthy, optimistic, and enterprising lives.
In adherence to the university's mission of nurturing talent, Lin called on institutional leaders to prioritize a student-centered approach, proactively addressing student needs and innovating communication methods to create a supportive environment for student success.

As a gesture of goodwill, Lin Rupeng and Sun Yu presented commemorative souvenirs from the Campus Afternoon Tea to the attendees, extending their best wishes for a fulfilling academic journey and bright futures at Jinan University.
International doctoral candidate Li Jida from Botswana expressed her appreciation for the event, noting its significance and the warmth conveyed by the responsive school leaders and faculty. As an international student, I felt deeply cared for by the school, she said.
Zhang Taihao, a 2024 undergraduate student from the School of Mechanics and Architecture, shared how Lin's emphasis on being good at learning inspired him. “I will remember Secretary Lin’s encouragement and strive to observe, experience, study hard, and live healthily, aiming to become an exemplary student at Jinan,” he remarked.
The event saw participation from leaders and staff across multiple university departments, including the Party and Government Office, the Academic Affairs Office, and the Student Employment Guidance Center, among others, reinforcing the university's commitment to fostering an inclusive and responsive educational environment.
