On October 15, the 2024 Autumn Semester Undergraduate Teaching Work Meeting convened in Conference Room 1111 of the Administrative Building at Shipai Campus. The meeting was presided over by Vice President Zhang Xiaoxin, who delivered an opening speech. Attendees included leaders from various colleges and departments responsible for teaching, directors from the Education and Science Office, and relevant personnel from the Undergraduate School.
During the meeting, the undergraduate school's leadership outlined the work priorities for the semester. Director Liu Tao of the Academic Affairs Office emphasized the importance of cultivating students' moral character as a fundamental task. He detailed plans to enhance undergraduate teaching, optimize professional programs, strengthen the construction of professional connotations, and promote innovation in the artificial intelligence+ education model. Liu also highlighted the need to ensure timely identification of risks, maintain the safety of textbooks, and uphold ideological integrity in classrooms. Preparations for reviews and evaluations were discussed, along with improvements to the management of internships and undergraduate thesis processes to enhance the overall quality of undergraduate education.
Zhu Zimu, Director of the Undergraduate Admissions Office, announced an upgraded recruitment promotion strategy for the semester. This strategy includes establishing a science popularization expert database, enhancing interactions with secondary schools, expanding recruitment channels in Hong Kong, Macao, and overseas, and improving performance incentives for recruitment promotion. The school plans to deepen cooperation with high schools through initiatives like winter preaching groups and science popularization lectures to attract high-quality applicants to Jinan University.
Zhang Mo, Director of the Teacher Development Center, reported that the focus for this semester will continue to be on improving teaching abilities among faculty, with specific training on AI-powered education and teaching methods. Plans to encourage teachers to participate in teaching innovation competitions and to strengthen the mentorship of newly appointed teachers were also discussed. The aim is to promote a culture of teaching excellence and innovation.
Additionally, the Entrepreneurship College will enhance students' awareness and capabilities in innovation and entrepreneurship by strengthening course offerings, organizing diverse practice activities, and improving teacher training and competition guidance to support the incubation and evaluation of innovation projects.
In his concluding remarks, Zhang Xiaoxin emphasized several key points: the importance of undergraduate talent cultivation and preparation for evaluations; the need for optimized enrollment policies to enhance student quality; the promotion of the integration of higher education with artificial intelligence technology to innovate talent training models and teaching methods; the necessity of effective teaching supervision to improve classroom quality; and the importance of engaging with teachers and students to create a harmonious campus environment.
This meeting marks a significant step in aligning Jinan University's educational strategies with contemporary technological advancements and the evolving landscape of higher education.
