The Fellowship was presented to Professor You by Carlos Arias Barreiro, Chairman of the SETAC Asia Pacific Branch. This honor underscores recognition from an esteemed international society founded in 1979, which has grown into one of the leading professional organizations in the fields of environmental toxicology and chemistry, boasting over 6,000 members across more than 90 countries.
Since its inception, SETAC has aimed to advance the field of environmental science and management. The organization publishes two prominent academic journals: Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (ET&C) and Integrated Environmental Assessment and Management (IEAM). Established in 2010, the Fellowship Award recognizes researchers who have made remarkable contributions to ecological toxicology, environmental chemistry, risk assessment, and life cycle assessment. To date, only 93 scholars globally have received this distinction, with Professor You being the second female recipient from the Asia Pacific region, following Professor Jennifer Lee Stauber from Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO).
Professor You Jing has been actively involved in ecological toxicology and water ecological risk assessment, primarily focusing on risk-oriented screening and evaluation methods for new pollutants. Her innovative research explores the behavior and toxicological causes of organic matter in real environments. She has proposed the concept of event-driven classification and employs artificial intelligence technology and high-resolution mass spectrometry in non-targeted screening methods to identify key toxicants and assess risks in complex pollution scenarios.
Additionally, she has received funding from notable projects, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China's Outstanding Youth Fund and the Guangdong Provincial Special Support Program for Science and Technology Innovation Leading Talents. Currently, she serves as the deputy editor-in-chief for several high-impact journals, including Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry and Reviews of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology. Professor You’s election as a Fellow of SETAC is a testament to her leadership and groundbreaking work in the environmental sciences.
