Jinan University's Guoji Youth Rural Revitalization Practice Team Engages in Summer Social Activities

Source: www.chinaqw.com

July 30, 2024

On July 30, 2024, Chinaqw Network reported on the social practice activities conducted by the Jinan University's Guoji Youth Rural Revitalization Practice Team. This key initiative, comprising 16 students from the  Hundred Counties, Thousand Towns, and Ten Thousand Villages High Quality Development Project, took place over a week in Boluo County, Huizhou City, Guangdong Province as part of the Three Goes to the countryside (to bring scientific and literacy knowledge and offer medical service to rural areas) social practice activity.

(At the opening ceremony)

The diverse team included students from mainland China as well as overseas Chinese students from Bangladesh, the United Arab Emirates, and Belize, alongside international students from countries such as the Czech Republic, India, Yemen, and Saudi Arabia. Under the leadership of Yan Xin, Secretary of the Party Committee of the International College of Jinan University, and Wang Peng, the team leader of the  Co-construction project between 100 universities and 100 counties  stationed in Boluo County, the Practice Team conducted on-site inspections at various locations, including Lanzi Tea Garden, Baitang Tea Garden, and Luofushan, engaging in meaningful exchanges with local departments focused on rural revitalization efforts.

During their visit to Baitang Tea Garden, team members participated in a handmade tea-making experience, gaining insights into the decade-long dedication of tea farmers and the rich culture surrounding Chinese tea. International students Kai Xin Wu from Belize and Barbara Lipnerová from the Czech Republic shared their experiences, highlighting the contrasts and connections between Chinese and foreign tea cultures, and encouraging cross-cultural understanding and exchanges.

Wally, a student from Bangladesh, expressed his newfound appreciation for lighter teas, contrasting with the strong, sweet tea typically enjoyed in Bangladesh. He aims to explore commonalities between Bangladeshi and Chinese tea cultures, aspiring to mitigate cultural barriers and promote Boluo tea on a global scale.

The practice team further engaged in discussions with local agricultural departments concerning the modernization of Boluo's agricultural guidelines. They proposed a comprehensive plan leveraging modern technology, such as high-definition imagery and interactive charts, to update traditional agricultural knowledge, thereby fostering innovation and preservation in agricultural practices.

(At Chinese Cultural Exchange Conference)

To promote cultural storytelling and enrich the educational experience, the team organized a Chinese Cultural Exchange Conference with Huizhou Qiaobang Education. During this event, international students shared their academic journeys in China, reflecting on their practical experiences in Boluo and encouraging peers to embrace global cultural exploration.

Focused on themes of rural revitalization and cultural inheritance, the practice team conducted research on Luofu Mountain, delving into the unique aspects of traditional Chinese medicine and herbal practices. They produced short films showcasing local culture, intertwining poetry, scenery, and tourism to support the Hundred Counties, Thousand Towns, and Ten Thousand Villages High Quality Development Project, thus enhancing the cultural influence of Luofu Mountain.

Through their experience, the practice team not only immersed themselves in Boluo's rich cultural tapestry but also documented and shared these stories, building bridges for cultural exchange between China and the world. Their motto, Read ten thousand books and travel ten thousand miles, encapsulates their commitment to telling China's stories and fostering international dialogue.
