The 7th National College Student Art Exhibition, held from June 12 to 18 in Xiangyang, Hubei, concluded with remarkable success for JNU student art troupe. Their original dance, Tea · Fun, under the supervision of Ren Yatong, secured both the first prize in the art performance category and the Excellent Creation Award, highlighting the troupe's exceptional talent and creativity.
Tea · Fun draws inspiration from the rich tapestry of regional characteristics and traditional culture, utilizing the national intangible cultural heritage of Chaoshan Gongfu Tea as its focal point. The dance vividly portrays the awe-inspiring folk art and traditions of southern Guangdong, encapsulating the tea-making process through the lively and playful movements of young girls. The choreography integrates the essential steps of receiving, brewing, scraping, and pouring, creating a vibrant depiction of life infused with regional identity. The performance not only showcases the spiritual civilization and etiquette inherent in the Gongfu tea ceremony, characterized by harmony, respect, refinement, and joy, but also revitalizes Guangdong's traditional culture for a contemporary audience.
This year's exhibition theme, Strengthening the National Conditions and Cultivating Enterprising Character, attracted over 7,400 participants from across the country, making it a significant platform for artistic expression. The Student Work Department of the School Party Committee prioritized the preparation for Tea · Fun, with Chen Xiaoming, Minister of the Student Work Department and head of the Student Art Troupe, alongside Deputy Minister Liu Hao, providing essential support and guidance to the participating teachers and students. Over the course of a year, the student art troupe meticulously refined their performance, emphasizing the role of art in cultural inheritance and showcasing the unique characteristics of Guangdong and the spirit of overseas Chinese schools.
The National College Student Art Exhibition is recognized as the largest, highest standard, and most influential event in the educational art sector, held every three years. Its purpose is to implement the Party's education policies fully, promote the holistic development of college students—encompassing morality, intelligence, physical fitness, and aesthetics—and reflect the contemporary values of students who are aligned with the times, dedicated to their country, and striving to realize their dreams. The exhibition also highlights the ideals, responsibilities, resilience, and aspirations of today’s college students, showcasing their pursuit of spiritual beauty, aesthetic expression, and character development, as well as the achievements of art education across Chinese higher education institutions.
