During the evaluation meeting, Yang Song presented the previous achievements of the school's Understanding China activities, as well as the current year's developments. She reported that the school has participated in the Ministry of Education's Understanding China initiative for four consecutive years, which has garnered robust support from various school committees, including the Party Committee and the Retirement Work Office.
Yang highlighted that out of the seven judges, six were notable experts and leaders from the school's secondary colleges and functional departments, which significantly augmented the activity’s credibility. The involvement of these leaders enhances the influence of the Understanding China initiatives among both faculty and students, further promoting the exemplary roles of revolutionary predecessors and veterans.
The school's work committee has prioritized the Understanding China activity, hosting a key work deployment meeting in March to strategize for the 2024 initiative. This meeting aimed to mobilize relevant units to adhere to the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Education and the Guangdong Provincial Education System on the Understanding China activity.
Yang noted that the customs committee engaged in frequent exchanges of best practices with secondary customs committees, offering constructive feedback and guidance for the interviews and micro-video productions associated with the event. As a result, the 2024 Understanding China initiative was successfully conducted. By early July, all work collection was completed, involving nine secondary customs committees, with a total of 27 essays and 7 micro videos submitted.
The judges rigorously assessed the submissions based on the Ministry of Education's evaluation standards for the Understanding China activity. The outcome of the evaluation yielded awards across various categories: 2 first prizes, 3 second prizes, and 5 excellent prizes for the essay competition; 2 Best Micro Videos and 3 Excellent Micro Videos; along with four Excellent Organization Awards. The panel unanimously agreed to nominate the top three essays and the best two micro videos for evaluation by the Provincial Education System Committee.
At the conclusion of the judging, the panelists offered constructive and professional guidance for revisions on the submitted works. Following the meeting, the school's work committee will relay the judges' suggestions to the relevant authors and mentors to enhance the quality of the entries, striving to develop exemplary pieces for future evaluation.
