Jinan University has received an invitation to deliver a special presentation at the 2024 Training Course for University Laboratory Information Statistics Cadres, organized by the Ministry of Education. The training course took place from August 12th to 16th, focusing on enhancing laboratory safety and management practices across higher education institutions.

Vice President Weng Jian represented JNU as a training expert, presenting a lecture titled Construction of University Laboratory Safety Curriculum and Training System. The event attracted participation from provincial education administrative departments and leading officials responsible for laboratory operations at various universities.

During his presentation, Weng Jian provided an in-depth analysis of the current safety landscape and educational status of university laboratories. He emphasized the critical need for developing comprehensive laboratory safety courses and training systems. His lecture detailed the process and unique content of the newly published textbook, Introduction to Laboratory Safety Science, which serves as a foundational resource for laboratory safety education.

Weng Jian elaborated on the construction of essential resource libraries, including a teacher library and course library, and outlined a structured curriculum system for laboratory safety management tailored for both undergraduate and graduate students. He also shared practical insights from Jinan University's implementation of a dynamic admission and learning approach, integrated with a laboratory safety scoring system to enhance safety training and education.

With robust support from the Guangdong Provincial Education Department, Jinan University has collaborated with experienced experts and educators from leading institutions such as Sun Yat-sen University and South China University of Technology to develop the textbook over the past two years. Published by Science Press in June 2024, Introduction to Laboratory Safety Science builds upon the national first-class undergraduate course Safety Knowledge of Biomedical Laboratories established in 2020. The book comprehensively covers various aspects of laboratory safety, including construction and management, fire safety, electrical and chemical safety, biological and radiation safety, emergency preparedness, and accident response.

Furthermore, it has been reported that the laboratory safety course and training system in Guangdong Province has successfully completed its institutional design and team-building phases. Under the guidance of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, Jinan University will lead the organization and implementation of this initiative, piloting it across 20 universities, including Sun Yat-sen University, South China University of Technology, and Shenzhen University.
