Jinan University's commitment to promoting the heritage and appreciation of traditional Chinese medicine culture was vividly showcased during the recent Science Popularization Day event held in collaboration with the School of Pharmacy, the Xinglin Baicaoshuo Studio and Traditional Chinese Medicine and Natural Medicine Popularization Education Base. The event, which took place on May 19th, welcomed elementary school students and kindergarten children from various schools in Guangzhou to delve into the captivating world of traditional Chinese medicine.

The Science Popularization Open Day event offered a captivating blend of exploration and education, facilitated by the passionate volunteers from the Pharmaceutical Youth Volunteer Service Team. The young participants were guided through the Herbarium of Traditional Chinese Medicine, where an array of traditional medicine specimens were on display, providing a hands-on experience that transcended textbook knowledge. By engaging in interactive activities such as observation, touch, and grinding, children immersed themselves in the essence and efficacy of traditional Chinese medicines, complemented by insightful explanations from teachers and volunteer students.

The event's itinerary extended to the Medicinal Botanical Garden of the Science Popularization Base, where thematic zones dedicated to medicinal plants welcomed eager young minds. From witnessing the production process of cochineal lipstick to creating their own natural lipstick, the children actively participated in experiential activities that bridged the gap between theory and practical application. By combining scientific knowledge with creative engagement, the event sparked curiosity and enthusiasm among participants, fostering a deeper appreciation for traditional Chinese medicine culture.

The Science Popularization Education Base at Jinan University has consistently strived to merge subject-specific knowledge with immersive experiences tailored for students of all ages. By aligning traditional Chinese medicine science with interactive projects, the base has succeeded in igniting interest and understanding among teenagers and their parents, fostering a holistic approach to health promotion and cultural appreciation. The integration of science+culture in the dissemination of traditional Chinese medicine heritage has resonated deeply with attendees, underscoring the significance of such science popularization activities in nurturing a shared understanding of this invaluable cultural legacy.

As part of its commitment to holistic education, Jinan University's Traditional Chinese Medicine and Natural Medicine Science Popularization Education Base has not only enriched the learning experiences of students but has also served as a platform for cultivating innovative talents and promoting the values of traditional Chinese medicine culture. Through the dedicated efforts of the Pharmaceutical Youth Volunteer Service Team, traditional knowledge is translated into accessible forms, inspiring a new generation to explore and embrace the timeless wisdom embedded in traditional Chinese medicine.
