The 2024 Jinan University Youth College Student Hundred and Thousand and Ten-thousand Project Team Action Case Competition witnessed the creative abilities of young talents from Guangdong as they unveiled a spectrum of innovative solutions for rural revitalization. Nine young teams captivated the audience with their imaginative offerings, ranging from captivating IP design to customized cultural and tourism initiatives, at the event held on April 29.

Zhang Gaoxiang, Secretary of the Youth League Committee of Jinan University, highlighted the university's proactive engagement with the rural communities of Shixing County in Shaoguan City, Boluo County in Huizhou City, and Chengbei Town in Meijiang District, Meizhou City. Through initiatives like the Three (Scientific, literacy knowledge and medical) Services Down to the Countryside social practice activity and the  Hundred and Thousand and Ten-thousand Project team action, over 80 teams participated, offering practical services encompassing agricultural technology assistance, rural landscape transformation, and agricultural live streaming sales support.

The competition aimed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and rural engagement, nurturing a passion for agriculture and fostering skills for promoting rural development, as emphasized by Zhang Gaoxiang.

Standing out among the contenders, the observation team from the School of Public Administration/School of Emergency Management clinched the top spot in the local cultural context category. Their comprehensive research in Xutian Village, Boluo County, Huizhou City, culminated in a detailed compilation of village history, cultural materials, and a bespoke cultural and tourism design plan. By integrating the local jicama industry, the team introduced the appealing IP image of  Jicama Brother, elevating the cultural heritage of the rural area.

The culinary landscape at Jinan University also witnessed a transformation with the introduction of Zhang Jiuling Prime Minister's Rice Noodle at the university guesthouse. Plans are underway to feature this dish in the student cafeteria, further promoting rural revitalization efforts. Practical teams at Jinan University showcased interdisciplinary prowess, with initiatives like the Colorful Sunshine team enhancing the packaging and visual appeal of Prime Minister Powder, and the Reflections on the Millennium Agricultural Assistance Practice Team creating an exclusive IP image around Zhang Jiuling for prime minister enthusiasts.

The event also saw the active participation of over 40 international students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and other countries. Antonio, a Mexican student, played a pivotal role in promoting Dungang horse hooves and other local agricultural products on a global scale, underscoring the diverse and inclusive nature of the initiatives undertaken by the student teams. Through innovative approaches like adding English subtitles to promotional videos, the teams aimed to broaden the reach and popularity of products like Dungang Horseshoe, resonating with a global audience.
