In a strategic move to bolster international partnerships and academic collaborations, a delegation led by Hong An, Vice President of JNU, embarked on a transformative journey to Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Nepal from December 20th to 29th, 2023. The visit, organized by the International Exchange and Cooperation Division, aimed to strengthen ties with key educational institutions, governmental bodies, and Chinese communities in these countries, fostering a spirit of global cooperation and knowledge exchange.
During the visit, Vice President Hong An engaged with representatives from five prestigious colleges and universities, exploring avenues for enhanced academic cooperation and research collaboration. Additionally, meetings with local government health departments, Chinese schools, overseas Chinese groups, and esteemed ambassadors facilitated discussions on international scientific and technological partnerships, local study abroad initiatives, and alumni engagement.

A highlight of the delegation's mission was the renewal of cooperation agreements with Double Well University in Malaysia, the University of Sri Lankon, and Lamani Buddhist University. These agreements underscore JNU's commitment to advancing medical science and technology, facilitating research result transformation, promoting student exchanges, and fostering collaborative educational programs with the aforementioned universities.

Noteworthy achievements include the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between Vice President Hong An and President Boyama of Shuangwei University, signaling a new chapter in bilateral collaboration. At the University of Botra in Malaysia, discussions centered on establishing a joint laboratory for oil processing and safety, paving the way for deeper scientific cooperation and knowledge sharing.

In Nepal, fruitful deliberations at the School of Medicine explored opportunities for joint research centers and scientific collaboration in biomedicine, culminating in the intention to formalize a memorandum of cooperation between the two universities. Similarly, engagements with the Minister of Health in Sri Lanka emphasized collaborative efforts under the Belt and Road initiative to enhance educational opportunities for national students seeking medical education in China.
The delegation's interactions with educational counselor Zhao Changtao of the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia underscored efforts to recruit local students for studies in China and promote science and technology cooperation between the two nations. The delegation's visit to Malaysian schools and engagement with local Chinese representatives highlighted JNU's commitment to fostering cultural exchanges and educational opportunities for overseas Chinese communities.
In a gesture of gratitude, Vice President Hong An expressed appreciation to Mr. Gu Runjin of Gurun Gold School in Malaysia for their steadfast support of JNU. Discussions focused on the university's achievements in high-quality development and its contributions to the double first-class university construction initiative. The visit was lauded as a significant step towards strengthening higher education cooperation under the Belt and Road framework, promoting mutual understanding, and supporting JNU's continued growth.

The delegation discussed with President Wu Yisheng, Vice President Liao Zhangzhi and alumnus Liu Wanbowan the specific matters of holding the 6th Joint Meeting of Presidents and Secretary-General of JNU Global Alumni Association in Malaysia in November 2024.
