JNU celebrated its 117th anniversary and held a ceremony launching its 120th-anniversary celebration on the Shipai campus on Nov. 18. The event kicked off several initiatives, including a large-scale media interview plan and a 120 High-Level Academic Lectures series, and included a collective donation ceremony.

JNU Party Secretary Lin Rupeng said the ceremony aimed to gather the wisdom and strength of JNUers around the world and to build JNU into a distinctive, domestic first-class and world-renowned high-level university from the new starting point of its 120th anniversary, laying a solid foundation for building a world-class university.

JNU President Song Xianzhong summarized JNU's main achievements since General Secretary Xi Jinping's inspection visit on Oct. 24, 2018; the challenges the university is facing, and a development plan for the 120th anniversary.

At the launching ceremony, representatives of JNU's board of trustees, social elites, students from Hong Kong and Macao, teachers, alumni and school leaders came together on stage to jointly inaugurate the event.

Held simultaneously was a ceremony for the large-scale media interview plan, titled JNU's Inheritance and Dissemination of Classic Chinese Culture Overseas and to Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.” Lin and Song, along with representatives from People's Daily, Xinhua News Agency, China Media Group, Guangming Daily, China Daily, China News Service, Nanfang Daily, Guangdong Television, Yangcheng Evening News, Guangzhou Daily, Phoenix News and other media, took the stage together to launch the plan.

The ceremony for 120 High-Level Academic Lectures launched a large-scale series of anniversary activities. The event included a high-level academic forum on the humanities and social sciences, one on the natural sciences and a cultural quality education lecture on JNU's centennial journey.
The collective donation ceremony recognized these donors:
Lai Ningchang, a JNU board member who is chairman of the Donlink Holding Group Co., Ltd., 20 million yuan.
Liang Zhongjing, another board member, and Luo Ding, vice chairman of JNU's Education Development Foundation, 12 million yuan jointly.
Hu Zhirong, chairman of the board of the Kaixinrong Co., Ltd., 20 million yuan.
Wu Wenjie, a JNU alumnus who is chairman of the Henan XJ Ping An Real Estate Co., Ltd., 18 million yuan.
Xia Liming, vice chairman of the Education Development Foundation and general manager of the Guangzhou JNUmeso Biotechnology Co., Ltd., 10 million yuan.
The Hong Kong Victoria Harbor Education Group and the Affiliated School of JNU for Hong Kong and Macao Students, 15 million yuan.
The Shanghai Labway Clinical Laboratory Co., Ltd.,10 million yuan to establish the JNU Labway Scientific Research Innovation Fund to support the development of medical disciplines.
Li Guohua, a JNU board member who is chairman of the Silverspark Development, Ltd. (Shenzhen), HK$10 million (9.15 million yuan).

In addition, JNU’s USA Southern California Alumni Association donated the JNU Hong Kong Alumni Association Site in room F3, 15th floor, of the Mirador Mansion, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong, with an area of 124 square meters.

JNU schools received donations totaling nearly 20 million yuan during the 117th anniversary period. Cumulative donations for the celebration of JNU’s 117th anniversary and the welcoming of its 120th exceeded 140 million yuan.
