An Academic Seminar on Overseas Sinology was held on Nov. 6 by JNU's Collaborative Center for the Promotion of Chinese Culture in Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and Overseas. Prof. Kim Min-ho, a sinologist from Hallym University in South Korea; researcher Nguyễn Tô Lan, a sinologist at the Institute of Sino-Nom Studies in Vietnam; and researcher Rostislav Berezkin, a Russian sinologist at Fudan University, were invited to give reports. Nearly 100 teachers and students from JNU, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GUFS), Wuhan University, Shanxi Normal University (SNU), Foshan University of Science and Technology and other universities attended.

The seminar was divided into two phases. In the first, Nguyễn, Berezkin and Kim reported, respectively, on The Introduction, Collection and Research of Ancient Chinese Literature in Vietnam, The Spread and Influence of Ancient Chinese Novels, Opera and Drama in Russia and The Collection, Collation and Research of Yan Xinglu by Korea scholars. (Yan Xinglu is a book recording what Korean missions heard and saw during the Ming and Qing dynasties.)

The second phase was a symposium on Experience and Methods of Overseas Sinology Research.  Prof. Liu Zhiqiang from GUFS, an expert in Sino-Vietnamese cultural exchange research; Prof. Li Kui from SNU, who has studied the dissemination of Chinese literature in Southeast Asia for many years; and three foreign experts were invited to attend. They had in-depth exchanges and discussions on such topics as the overseas dissemination of Chinese culture; the collection and research of overseas Chinese classical literature; and the achievements, experiences and methods of developing overseas Sinology.

The Collaborative Center is a national-level platform of humanities and social sciences, co-constructed at the provincial and ministerial levels, and recognized by the Ministry of Education in September 2020. It consists of the Overseas Sinology Research Center, the Comparative Research Center of Chinese and Western Civilizations, the Think Tank Establishment Branch, the Chaozhou Culture Research Institute, the Qiaodu Culture Research Institute, the Guangzhou Academic Research Center, branches in Beijing and Japan, and other scientific research institutions. A series of academic activities, including the Overseas Sinologist Lectures and the Overseas Sinology Research Forum held by the Overseas Sinology Research Center, have been highly praised in academic circles in China and abroad.
