In the 21st China University Athletics Championships, JNU's representative team won two gold medals, two silver and two bronze. Yan Haibin and Deng Xinrui, the twin sprinters of Jinan University, scored 10.24 seconds and 10.25 seconds, respectively, in the men's 100-meter preliminaries of the D group and won the championship and runner-up, respectively, in the finals.

Su Bingtian, , the Olypmic champion who is a professor at Jinan University, had set the men's 100 metres record at the China University Athletics Championships with 10.28 seconds in 2014. Both rising sprinters Yan and Deng broke this record, and said Su inspired then to enroll at JNU.
In addition, Liang Baotang was champion of the men's 400-meter; Ma Huixin and Lv Yanlan finished second and third, respectively, in the women's 100-meter; and Yang Chen won the bronze medal in the men's discus throw.
