JNU students took the Winners' Cup in the 17th Guangdong Challenge Cup, sweeping top rewards with eight grand prizes, six first prizes, five second prizes and seven third prizes. Four of the winners are from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
The final round of the Challenge Cup Guangdong College Students' Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition, was held on May 27 and 28 at Sun Yat-Sen University. The competition was jointly organized by the China Communist Youth League Committee of Guangdong, the province's Department of Education and Department of Science and Technology, the Guangdong Provincial Association for Science and Technology, the Guangdong Academy of Social Sciences, and the Guangdong Students' Federation.
These projects won grand prizes:
• Investigation of the Current Situation of Rural News Officers' Participation in Grassroots Governance, Based on Field Research in Eight Counties in Guangdong (School of Journalism and Communication)
• Survey Research on Factors Contributing to Migrant Workers' Public Housing Satisfaction and Their Willingness to Stay in Guangzhou (School of Journalism and Communication)
• Problem-Solving on Hierarchical Diagnosis and Treatment and Providing Universal Health Care: Research on the Allocation of Hierarchical Medical Resources and Residents' Health Care in Guangdong (School of Economics)
• Is the Combination of Carbon Tax and Carbon Trading Effective? Laboratory Evidence Based on China's Current Carbon Pricing Policy as a Model (International Business School)
• Research on Mixed Electrolysis of Ethanol Electrooxidation Reaction and Zinc-Alcohol Air Battery (College of Science and Engineering)
• Development and Stabilization Mechanism of Functional Foods Based on 3D Printed Emulsion (College of Science and Engineering)
• Piezoelectricity: A Driving Force for a New In-Situ Fenton Emergency Treatment Technology (School of Environment)
• Development of New Dental Implants with a Denture-Bone Interface. (School of Stomatology)
During the finals, Huang Wei, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the competition committee's chairman, and Ran Bo, secretary of the China Communist Youth League Committee of Guangdong, visited the exhibition area of JNU's entries. They heard reports on the entries, exchanged ideas with the students, and offered instructions on project incubation and implementation.

Starting in March, the Challenge Cup received 2,029 entries from 156 universities in Guangdong, and 808 were shortlisted for the finals. The entries fell into three categories: academic papers in natural sciences; social investigation reports in philosophy and social sciences; and science and technology inventions and productions.
