JNU Prof. Gao Hao received the third National Award for Excellence in Innovation at the Celebration of the National Day of Science and Technology Workers and the Commendation Conference of the National Award for Excellence in Innovation at the National Communication Center for Science and Technology in Beijing on May 30. 

Established in 2017, the National Award for Excellence in Innovation is co-sponsored by the China Association for Science and Technology, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, and the State Council's State-Owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission. Every three years, it commends groups and individuals who have made outstanding contributions to research and exploration in basic and frontier areas; major equipment and engineering projects; transformation of achievements; innovation and entrepreneurship; and social services. This year 251 people nationwide received the award.

Gao is the director of JNU's Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Natural Products and the secretary of JNU's Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine. He has long been engaged in the teaching and scientific research on the medicinal substances of traditional Chinese medicine and the chemistry of natural medicines. His honors include National Model Teacher, Excellent Teacher of Guangdong, the May 4 Youth Medal of Guangdong, second prize in National Teaching Achievement and the Guangdong Teaching Achievement Prize. Having presided over six National Natural Science Fund projects and a number of ministerial and provincial projects, he has published more than 50 SCI papers in the last five years and holds more than 10 authorized patents. In addition, he has been selected as a candidate for the national 10,000 Talents Plan, National Excellent Youth, Changjiang Scholar, and Youth Leader in Science and Technology Innovation.
