Double Olympic gold medalist Xie Siyi shared his story with the theme “From Olympic champion to NPC deputy” on April 20 as the third lecture in the JNU Sports Lecture Hall at the Zeng Xianzi Science Museum. Hosted by the Publicity Team and Student Union of the School of Physical Education, the lecture was co-sponsored by the Publicity Department of JNU’s Party Committee, the Network and Education Technology Center and the General Logistics Management Office, with the School of Physical Education and the Sports Commission as the main organizers. In attendance were JNU Vice President Rao Min; Peng Guoxiong, dean of the School of Physical Education; Ma Jie, secretary of the school’s Party Committee; Zhang Run, vice head of the Party Committee’s Student Affairs Department; Su Yunsheng, deputy head of the Party Committee’s Publicity Department; and Yang Weiwei, deputy secretary of the school’s Party Committee. The lecture was simultaneously conducted offline and online, with more than 7,700 viewers.

Rao reviewed Xie's achievements and the significant accomplishment of JNU's sports programs. After winning the championships in the men’s synchronized springboard diving and men's 3-meter springboard diving at the Tokyo Summer Olympics in 2021, Xie became the first Chinese to achieve a grand slam in the men's 3-meter springboard in the Olympics, the Federation International Nation Association (FINA) Diving World Cup and the World Championship. Rao mentioned the JNU Sports Lecture Hall, a campus cultural activity that exerts the influence of sports stars to promote the spirit of Chinese sports and enhances confidence in physical culture.

Before the lecture, Xie presented the school with his competition uniforms from the Tokyo Olympics. Rao presented him with a letter appointing him Tutor of the School of Physical Education for Student Ideological and Political Team by Rao, with Ma presiding over the ceremony.

The lecture was conducted in the form of an interview, with Ye Zhihai, vice dean of the School of Art/Pearl River Film Academy of Jinan University, as host. Xie enthusiastically shared his way to Olympic championship and his experience as a new National People's Congress deputy in the National People's Congress and the Chinese Political Consultative Conference.

As one of Guangdong's four newly elected deputies from the post-95s generation, Xie said that to repay people's care and support for him, he would pay more attention to affairs in the sports field and use his expertise to promote and lead the development of sports undertakings in the years to come.

Xie expressed his strong emotional attachment to Jinan University because of the enthusiastic care and strong support he received from his teachers and classmates here.
