Ma Xinyuan, an undergraduate student in the 2019 class in JNU's physics department in the College of Science and Engineering, ranked first in his major, with an grade point average of 4.35. He has won three national-level competition awards, as well as several provincial and school-level awards. He was responsible for two Training Programs for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. In addition, he has published a Science Citation Index (SCI) paper and received numerous honors, including a National Scholarship.

With its profound historical and cultural background, JNU has always been a great attraction for me, fueling my desire to be a part of the JNU family, Ma said. With his heart set on JNU, Ma traveled 1,600 kilometers from his hometown in Shandong province to Guangdong to pursue his academic aspirations.

Not long after arriving at JNU, he met his guide on his research journey. His mentor, Chen Ke, a young teacher who had just graduated from Peking University, was not only his class teacher but also his research supervisor and a good research companion.

Under Chen's guidance, Ma was responsible for his first Undergraduate Training Program for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, approved at the national level.

He has accepted an offer from Peking University's B.S.-to-PhD program in materials physics and chemistry through postgraduate recommendation. 

During his time at JNU, Ma published a SCI paper as co-first author in the Journal of Power Sources, with an impact factor (a Reuters index to evaluate journals' influence) of 9.794s. He has also won three national-level competition awards, three provincial and ministerial-level competition awards, and other major awards in academic competitions.

He earned these awards and acclaim through countless days and nights of intensive research, working almost every day from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week, in his first three years at JNU. In his sophomore and junior years, he dedicated almost 10 hours of his weekends to scientific experiments in the lab.

By staying true to ourselves, remaining focused on our goals and keep our feet on the ground, we can indeed write our own stories. Ma said.
