JNU held the finals of the 7th Teaching Competition for New Teachers of Undergraduate Courses on Shipai Campus on March 16 and 17. The humanities and social sciences group won four first prizes, seven second prizes and 17 third prizes, while the natural sciences group won four first prizes, six second prizes and 15 third prizes. Several teaching units received Best Organization Awards.
At the opening ceremony, JNU Vice President Weng Jian emphasized the competition's importance to teaching and teachers' development. He pointed out that it was intended to help new teachers transition into their jobs as soon as possible, to promote the exchange of teaching ideas and skills, and to build a teaching culture of respecting the podium and pursuing excellence. He also encouraged the new teachers to use the competition to test themselves and reflect on their teaching, and to take it as a new starting point to strive for excellence in teaching.
The preliminary competitions on the college level attracted more than 200 participants from 31 JNU schools; 28 participants from the humanities group and 25 from the natural science group were shortlisted for the campus-level finals.

The judges were young teachers from seven universities, including JNU, who had won first prize in the Young Teachers Teaching Contests of Guangdong. At the closing ceremony, the judges commented on participants' performances and had an in-depth communication with them and the teachers in the audience on teaching design, means and methods, and organization.
