Zhang Xiaoyu, a student in the 2019 journalism class in JNU’s School of Journalism and Communication, minored in finance and has been recommended to Fudan University without examination to study for a master’s degree in financial journalism. She won the national scholarship and first-class scholarship for outstanding students, and she ranked first in the school in the postgraduate recommendation with a GPA of 4.19. She was the principal investigator in two National Undergraduate Training Programs for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and a participant in a Guangdong Provincial Undergraduate Training Program for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. She received a bronze award at the eighth China International College Students’ Internet+ Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition and won second prize in JNU’s Challenge Cup Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition for College Students. She wrote a news commentary for China Education Daily and interned in Southern Weekly’s society news department, writing almost 40 in-depth reports that have had more than a million page views.

“Life is a process of constant exploration,” she said. “If I do not try, I will never know.” After figuring out her innermost thoughts, Zhang Xiaoyu, who started as an architecture major, decided to change to journalism.

At JNU, Zhang said, she has gained a clearer understanding of herself in the process of constant trial and exploration.

Zhang studied new subjects, did internships, and participated in various projects and competitions. Study and work are as the leitmotif of her life.

In her mind, three words drive her to move forward: struggle, introspection and transcendence.

She received offers from three top universities: Fudan University, Communication University of China, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology. She chose Fudan.
