(JNU's debate team winning the championship)

JNU defeated Peking University to win the championship in the 10th International Chinese Debating Competition final, held on January 15 in Shanghai. 

The competition is the world's highest-level debate competition for teams invited from universities all over the world. With its professional competition system, judges and debate teams from the world's top universities, it is known as New International Debate in Chinese debating circles.

From Jan. 12 to 15, JNU's debate team competed five times with teams from Nankai University, Southwest University of Political Science and Law, Peking University and others. JNU stood out among 24 teams from top debating universities.

Led by Guo Yixiang, an undergraduate, the championship team included two doctoral students, Zeng Yiyan and Zhang Zirui; two master’s degree students, Liu Xiran and Huang Jianhang, and two undergraduates, Feng Shiran and FengZhuo.

Debate culture is spread among universities in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. Since 2018, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Invitational Tax Debate Competition for University Students has been held for five years consecutively. The 2022 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Universities Debating Championship was held. These tournaments offered additional opportunities.
