Yang Yinan, a member of the 2019 undergraduate class in applied chemistry in JNU's College of Chemistry and Materials Science, ranked first in his major, with the highest GPA. He received offers from five top universities, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He accepted the offer from Peking University's B.S.-to-PhD. Program through postgraduate recommendation.
In his college application, Yang applied to majors related to chemistry. After the National College Entrance Examination, JNU admitted him to the applied chemistry major, as he wished.
During his college years, he said, he spent most of his time in library.
To get better grades, he constantly spurs himself to improve his learning methods and efficiency in study.

Taking the advantage of impressive grades and various awards, Yang Yinan received a postgraduate recommendation, which exempted him from the postgraduate entrance examination, in the second semester of his junior year.
He applied for summer camps at nine famous universities. In the end, he received offers from five of them, three of which have B.S.-to-Ph.D. programs. He chose Peking University's School of Materials Science and Engineering.
