JNU held the ninth Youth Forum of the China Emergency Management 50 Forum on Emergency Management both online and onsite on July 24. 9th Youth Forum on Emergency Management Held at JNU

At the opening ceremony, JNU President Song Xianzhong said the forum would focus on the development of emergency management discipline, personnel training, mega-city emergency resilience enhancement, security risk governance innovation and improvement of grassroots emergency management capacity. He said it would explore inspirations and new paths for the modernization of China's emergency management system and capacity in the new era.

Wang Zhongbing, head of the Guangdong Department of Emergency Management, said emergency management was a science and a typical comprehensive discipline. He said he hoped experts and scholars would continue to support related work and looked forward to more young talents actively participating in emergency management.

Yang Weiqiang, director of the Guangzhou Municipal Emergency Management Bureau, said Guangzhou's emergency management had achieved a double decline in the number of production accidents and deaths for 20 consecutive years. He also said Guangzhou's emergency management system would better protect people's safety and property, creating a secure, stable environment for Guangzhou.

In five subforums, more than 80 young scholars presented research reports and conducted academic exchanges on 12 themes including Problems and Countermeasures for the Development of Emergency Management Disciplines, Comprehensive Reform of Higher Education and Training of Emergency Management Talents and Improvement of Professional Management Capabilities and Team Building in the New Era.”

Since it was first held in 2011, the China Emergency Management 50 Forum has been a significant platform for academic exchanges and practical discussions among experts and scholars working in the field. The youth forum was established in 2014. This year's forum was jointly hosted by JNU's School of Public Administration, the Emergency Management Research Base of Tsinghua University, the Beijing Urban Systems Engineering Research Center and other units. It has gained support from JNU's Emergency Management Research Center and Big Data and Social Governance Research Center.
