Prof. Luo Liangping and his team in the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University have published three research papers on cancer treatment in high-impact journals: Journal of Nanobiotechnology, Bioactive Materials and ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces.

Malignant tumors, with high incidence and death rates, are a great threat to public health and security. Despite breakthroughs in the last few years, limitations on cancer treatment still remain, including individual differences, low responses to treatment and severe side effects. Therefore, it is very important to develop precise, individualized treatment guided by medical imaging.

Luo and his team have been conducting in-depth research in medical imaging, nanomedicine, chemical materials, pharmacy and other multidisciplinary fields. In particular, they report remarkable achievements in tumor treatment guided by medical imaging. With many key projects, they received funds from the Natural Science Foundation of Guangdong and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. They were authorized to establish the Guangzhou Municipal Key Lab for Clinical Transformation of Molecular and Functional Imaging and the Guangdong Provincial Research Center of Precise AI Theranostics Engineering Technology with Medical Imaging.

The Guangzhou Municipal Key Lab for Clinical Transformation of Molecular and Functional Imaging has gathered 9 national talents and 17 provincial/ministerial talents from Jinan University. The team researched tumor and major diseases of the nervous system from three dimensions: molecular imaging, functional imaging and imageomics. Its findings have been published in high-level journals in China and abroad, including Nature, European Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, ACS Nano, Matter, Angiogenesis, Brain, Behavior, Immunity and European Radiology, and cited about 1,200 times. The team has applied for 48 patents and 30 authorizations for its achievements. It has also received six scientific research awards at the provincial level and above.
