All of JNU's six entries in the 17th Challenge Cup won prizes on March 28: one first prize, three second and two third JNU continued to be one of joint universities to hold the competition.
The project Medical Breath Noninvasive Diagnostic Instrument Based on Mid-Infrared Tunable Laser, submitted by the College of Science and Engineering, won the first prize. Second prizes went to Research on Public Opinion Guidance on Youth in Hong Kong from the School of Journalism and Communication, On the Effectiveness of Carbon Emission Trading Pilot Program in Guangdong,” from the School of Public Administration, and “Emergency Management and Phase-Separated Mo-Ni Alloy for Hydrogen Oxidation and Evolution Reactions with High Activity and Enhanced Stability” from the College of Science and Engineering. The third-prize winners were Ice-Breaking Test Strip: Methamphetamine Immunofluorescence Test Strip from the College of Life Science and Technology and Research on Highly Sensitive Optical Fiber Vector Magnetic Field Sensing from the College of Science and Engineering.

The Challenge Cup, held every two years, is a leading national competition in collegiate extracurricular academic work. It is sponsored by the Central Committee of China's Communist Youth League, the China Association for Science and Technology, the Ministry of Education, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the All-China Students' Federation and the People's Government of Sichuan Province. Started in 1989, it is now considered the academic Olympics for college students. It encompasses three aspects: social reports and academic papers in philosophy and social sciences; academic papers in the natural sciences; and scientific and technological inventions.
