JNU's College of Pharmacy celebrated its 20th anniversary on Oct. 27. The celebration meeting included the opening ceremony of the college's Traditional Chinese Medicine Museum, which is multi-functional in teaching, scientific research, popularizing science and publicity. The museum paints a vivid picture of the Belt and Road Initiative and Lingnan TCM culture in southern Guangdong.
Attending the ceremony were Chen Kaixian, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; JNU Part Secretary Lin Rupeng and President Song Xianzhong; Martin G. Banwell, an academician of Australian Academy of Science; Zhou Cheng, deputy director of the Guangdong Human Resources and Social Security Department; Fang Wei, deputy director of the Guangdong Drug Administration; Li Jia, head of the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica; Lu Tao, vice president of China Pharmaceutical University; Zhou Demin, dean of Peking University’s School of Pharmaceutical Sciences; Zhang Luyong, vice president of Guangdong Pharmaceutical University; Liu Zhongqiu, vice president of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine; Liu Shuwen, vice president of Southern Medical University; Gao Yueyi, chairman of Lixin Pharmaceuticals; JNU Vice Presidents Zhang Ronghua and Ye Wencai; leaders of Party and government departments of JNU and other universities; former leaders and retired representative teachers of JNU's College of Pharmacy; representative alumni; guests from various fields; and representative faculty members and students. Li Hongjian, secretary of the college’s Party committee, hosted the livestreamed celebration.

Lin pointed out that JNU's pharmaceutical science discipline was recognized as a key developing discipline at a higher level in Guangdong in 2015 and added to the list of national double-first-class developing disciplines in 2017. The college finished the first round of double-first-class development from 2016 to 2020. Lin said JNU would continue to support the college's development and accelerate its course to world-class status.
Dean Ding Ke said the college has grown quickly ever since was established in 2001. It now comprises three departments: Pharmacy Sciences, Science of Chinese Materia Medica and Biological Pharmacy; 11 research institutes; one center for teaching experimentation, and one public scientific research platform. The pharmaceutical science discipline ranks seventh nationally, among the top 5% in China.
Representative faculty members, Banwell, graduates and students gave speeches expressing their willingness to cooperate with school and make contributions in promoting double-first-class discipline development.
