With the theme Friendship in Focus, Together for the Future, the 2021 China-Africa Video and Photo Competition, co-hosted by the secretariat of the Chinese Follow-Up Committee of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and the China International Publishing Group, concluded with an awards ceremony in Beijing on Oct. 14. 

International students from JNU achieved good results in the competition.  Traditional Chinese Medicine, shot by Mamelang Cynthia Mmutlwan from Botswana and Bian Zixuan from China, won first prize. The Story of Jacques in China, by Bakotoko Jaques from the Republic of Congo and Huang Junjia from China, won second prize. Secret of Tea, by of Florence Ego Eneze from Nigeria and Wang Haiyi from China, won third prize.

At the awards ceremony Deng Li, assistant minister of foreign affairs, noted various excellent works in the competition, including touching stories demonstrating people's great love during the pandemic, the symbiosis between Chinese and African cultures, and lasting friendship between the Chinese and African people. Martin Chedondo, Zimbabwe's ambassador of China, said the competition was not only a contest, but also a grand event to celebrate China-Africa friendship and cultural diversity.

The competition solicited short videos and photography by Chinese and African people and institutions. It received more than 2,500 entries from more than 40 African countries, and its official website has attracted 40 million views. The contestants recorded bits and pieces of close, sincere Chinese-African friendship. The awards ceremony was held simultaneously in Beijing; Johannesburg, South Africa; and Dakar< Senegal. The contest awarded one special prize, two first prizes, four second prizes and six third prizes. Winners were chosen through expert evaluation and an online poll.
