Jinan University has had 37 projects approved in the 2021 National Social Science Fund annual projects: four key projects, 19 general projects and 14 youth projects. JNU ranks 15th among universities nationwide and has been among the top 20 universities nationwide for six consecutive years.

JNU has been awarded 219 projects since 2016, ranking 12th nationally and topping the universities in the double first-class  initiative, according to an official list by Shanghai Ranking.

JNU's approved projects have included 21 subjects since 2016, almost covering all the JNU social science subjects. They include 25 in Chinese literature, ranking first; 23 in Chinese history, ranking second; 21 in law; 20 in linguistics; and 19 in journalism and communication.
