Lan Yufu, a sophomore from Meizhou, Guangdong is the first student in the history of JNU's College of Foreign Studies to join the college student conscription.

Though none of Lan's family members has ever joined the army, he has shown strong interest in the history of the Communist Party and the military story of China and has longing for an army life since childhood.
He decided to join at the end of 2019 and he made the decision when messages about College Student Conscription appeared on Lan's class WeChat groups.

Then he searched for information on every official military website he could find and trained himself according to the open military physical fitness assessment standards.

On Sept. 1, teachers and students in the College of Foreign Studies gave Lan a farewell party. Teachers expressed their ardent expectations that Lan will be an inspirational model for more people to know about and devote themselves to the modernization development of China's national defense and military.
Lan said military camp was like a large school and students had a responsibility to join the army and serve their country. Joining the army has always been his dream, he said. He would study hard and train diligently to achieve his values in life, contribute to the national defense development and deliver impressive results for JNU and China.
