Chen Zuhui, an infection control specialist who directs the Science and Education Office of the First Affiliated Hospital of JNU, gave an exclusive interview to Yangcheng Evening News on June 26. He reviewed his experience and feelings of fighting Covid-19 in the last few months and discussed the key points of preventing and controlling hospital-acquired infections when in the face of Covid-19's Delta variant.
Chen and his team went to the Liwan District People's Hospital, the Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Guangzhou Eighth People's Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University to guide prevention and control work after the most recent Covid-19 outbreak in the city. Under the pressure of work and time, Chen even suffered from cardiac symptoms.

On May 29, Chen, who is also a member of the Party Committee of the Shenhe Affiliated Hospital of JNU and the hospital's deputy secretary, received an emergency call from the Health Commission of Guangdong Province and accepted the task of teaching prevention and control of hospital infections in the Hedong Branch of the Liwan District People's Hospital.
His 15-member team assisted the Guangzhou Eighth People's Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University on June 12.
During the period of assistance Chen slept only four or five hours a day and lost 11 pounds. On June 22, when he suddenly felt pressure in his chest, he had to leave the frontline to receive treatment in the First Affiliated Hospital of JNU.
To strengthen prevention and control of hospital infections involving the more contagious Delta variant, he advised: First, we should conduct pre-examination triage starting from diagnosing patients, including outpatient management, emergency treatment, fever clinics and inpatient treatment process, as well as the protection and monitoring of inpatients, accompanying nursing personnel and medical workers. Second, people should wash their hands, wear masks, ventilate their spaces frequently, maintain a safe distance from social contact and minimize crowd-gathering.
