JNU's Overseas Chinese Literature Museum is among 23 Patriotism Education Bases in Guangdong, announced by the Publicity Department of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC). It is JNU's first time on the list.

In 1995, with the approval of the State Council's Overseas Chinese Affairs Office,the JNU library established the Overseas Chinese Literature and Information Center. In 2016, the Overseas Chinese Museum, based on the center, was officially established. Covering about 1,800 square meters, it has five areas: overseas Chinese, Chinese literature, Chinese education, Chinese media and Chinese economy. The museum has established 19 overseas literature collection contact points through the JNU Overseas Alumni Association and Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA). At present, the museum has a collection of nearly 50,000 pieces of literature, featuring overseas Chinese folk literature, journals and genealogy. Every year, many experts and scholars in overseas Chinese studies, as well as writers from China and abroad, visit to search for materials and lectures. The museum has accumulated more than 300,000 pieces of data in its digital resource systems. In addition, it publishes a monthly magazine and an annual reference book on overseas Chinese affairs, and participates in the editing of columns in the journal Overseas Chinese AffairsStudy entrusted by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office. Each year, it organizes a variety of activities Overseas Chinese Cultural Week based on different themes and promotes overseas Chinese history and culture.
